Dermansko-Ostrozkyi National Nature Park
Located northwest of Illiashivka village, the area forms a vital sanctuary for Jurinea cyanoides, holding the only currently identified population within the national park. Spanning 4,15 ha along the edge of the woods, the species grows in open glades within dry pine forests dominated by green mosses and Cladonia lichens, alongside associated flora such as Koeleria glauca, Gypsophila fastigiata and Thymus serpyllum. In 2022, the local population was surveyed at 144 rosettes, including 32 flowering plants.
Threats to the Site
The site faces multiple ecological and anthropogenic threats. Natural forest succession and tree sproutings are steadily reducing open sand patches, while prolonged droughts driven by climate change further stress the habitat. Due to its proximity to the nearby settlement, additional threats include wild forest fires, unauthorized local recreational activity and spread of invasive species.
Site Management
Planned project actions will evaluate genetic diversity, monitor population dynamics, assess habitat quality and track pollinator activity. In addition, citizen science campaigns will be organized alongside the preparation of a formal species action plan to guide long-term conservation.
