To avoid conflicts with other protected floodplain habitats and species within the broader Natura 2000 network, conservation efforts are focused specifically on two sandy sub-sites where Elbe deposits provide optimal conditions: Taufwiesenberge Nord (7,11 ha) and Taufwiesenberge Sued (1,26 ha). While Jurinea cyanoides does not occur here, introducing the species to these historical Elbe sand dunes is vital for establishing new, resilient populations in the region.

Taufwiesenberge Nord

The site is currently covered by pine forest, which will be cleared by the UNB Jerichow prior to restoration. Following deforestation, conservation actions will focus on establishing a stable population of 1 000 rosettes and boosting bare soil cover by 250 %.

Planned interventions include repeated mechanical clearing of mosses, lichens and plant litter, alongside seed sowing and grazing introduction. Soil samples will also be analyzed to track chemical and physical parameters, complemented by regular monitoring.

Taufwiesenberge Sued

Taufwiesenberge Sued consists of open sandy grassland that is already managed through extensive grazing. Restoration plans focus on introducing Jurinea cyanoides to establish a target population of 1 000 rosettes while increasing open sand availability by 250 %. Planned management includes ongoing grazing, repeated manual removal of litter and moss layers to expose raw soil, and targeted seed sowing. Long-term monitoring and soil parameter testing should ensure optimal establishment conditions.
