Elbaue zwischen Derben und Schönhausen
To avoid conflicts of interest with protected aquatic and wetland habitats - such as watercourses and floodplain vegetation - and rare local species like the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina) and great crested newt (Triturus cristatus), project interventions within this large Natura 2000 area are restricted to a single sub-site: Bucher Brack (0,07 ha). This small sub-site features Elbe sand deposits that offer suitable conditions for introducing Jurinea cyanoides, establishing a new population in a historically colonized area to strengthen species resilience across the Elbe region.
The sub-site is currently managed through extensive grazing by horses and cattle. However, the gradual loss of open sand due to litter accumulation and moss encroaching remains the primary threat.
Site Management
Conservation measures aim to establish a target population of 1 000 rosettes while increasing bare soil cover by 250 %.
Planned actions include continuing horse and cattle grazing, repeated manual removal of lichens, mosses and plant litter to expose bare soil, and targeted seed sowing. Long-term monitoring and soil parameter analysis will be conducted to track site conditions and ensure successful establishment.
