Slovechanskyi Kriazh
Located northeast of the village of Rudnia Ozerianska, this remote and well-preserved site sits on a forested sand dune within the Ozerianske forestry. The site forms an essential conservation area for Jurinea cyanoides in Zhytomyr Polissya, protecting a 0,03 ha locality positioned on the edge of a sparse pine forest along a forest road. The population consists of two vital clumps with flowering shoots that successfully set seed in 2024. The surrounding open dune vegetation is dominated by Corynephorus canescens, Helichrysum arenarium, Thymus serpyllum and lichens, accompanied by rare regional flora such as Dianthus pseudosquarrosus.
Threats to the Site
Ecological threats are primarily driven by climate-induced drought and natural forest succession, as sprouting trees and shrubs gradually overgrow the open sand habitat.
Site Management
Planned project actions include assessing genetic diversity, tracking population dynamics, evaluating overall habitat quality and monitoring pollinator activity. In addition, citizen science campaigns will be launched alongside the preparation of a dedicated species management plan.
